5-Day South Iceland
Day 1: Golden Circle & South Coast Start
- Visit Þingvellir National Park (history and geology).
- See the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall.
- Drive towards the South Coast.
- Overnight near Hella.
Day 2: South Coast Waterfalls, Beaches & Glacier Hike
- Drive past Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
- Visit Seljalandsfoss (walk behind it) and Skógafoss waterfalls.
- See Sólheimajökull glacier.
- Take a guided glacier hike.
- Visit Dyrhólaey rock arch and Reynisfjara black sand beach.
- Optional stop in Vík village.
- Overnight near Skaftafell.
Day 3: Skaftafell & Glacier Lagoon
- Explore Skaftafell (part of Vatnajökull National Park).
- Recommended hike to Svartifoss waterfall.
- Visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon (icebergs).
- See Diamond Beach.
- Overnight near Skaftafell.
Day 4: South Coast Return & Landscapes
- Drive back west along the South Coast.
- See Lómagnúpur mountain, Dverghamrar basalt columns.
- Drive through Mýrdalssandur and the Eldhraun lava field.
- Optional stops in coastal villages (Stokkseyri, Eyrarbakki, Þorlákshöfn).
- Overnight near Hella.
Day 5: Reykjanes Peninsula & Departure
- Explore the Reykjanes Peninsula near the airport.
- See moss-covered lava fields, craters, and Keilir mountain.
- Visit Gunnuhver hot springs and the Bridge Between Continents.
- Optional visit to the Blue Lagoon (book separately).
- Drive to KEF Airport for departure.
