Your Guided Expedition into the Westfjords
This 4-day Westfjords tour is an immersive experience designed to reveal the stunning natural beauty and rich cultural heritage of this isolated peninsula. Travel in comfort with our experienced guides, specially trained for the Westfjords’ unique roads, and leave the logistics behind as you explore winding fjords, towering cliffs, and serene villages at a comfortable pace.
Day 1: Gateway to the Westfjords & Tales of Sorcery
Our adventure begins in the heart of Reykjavík. We venture north towards the Westfjords, making a stop to hike the trails of the majestic Grábrók volcano crater for panoramic views of the surrounding landscape – a great introduction to Iceland’s volcanic geology. As we journey towards the Westfjords, where history is intertwined with folklore, we visit the intriguing Museum of Sorcery & Witchcraft in Hólmavík. Learn about the region’s darker past and mystical traditions. Our journey leads us to a unique haven of relaxation and natural beauty: Heydalur, a one-of-a-kind farm stay nestled in a tranquil valley, where we’ll spend the night.
Day 2: Coastal Drives, Arctic Fox & Fjord Panoramas
Leaving the peace of Heydalur, our path winds through the stunning northern Westfjords. We make a charming stop at Littlibær coffeehouse, housed in a traditional Icelandic turf house (seasonal opening may apply). The Arctic Fox Center in Súðavík unveils the mysteries of Iceland’s only native land mammal, offering a chance to learn about and perhaps greet these beautiful, furry friends. For lunch, we visit Tjöruhúsið Ísafjörður, a renowned seafood restaurant in Ísafjörður set in a historic building, offering a taste of the region’s maritime heritage. After lunch, prepare for an exciting visit up on Bolafjall mountain, revealing stunning panoramas over the fjords stretching out towards the Arctic Ocean – a truly breathtaking viewpoint. We uncover the secrets of Minnibakki in Skálavík and delve deeper into maritime history at the Ósvör Maritime Museum in Bolungarvík, featuring a replica 19th-century fishing base. The vibrant town of Ísafjörður, the largest in the Westfjords, becomes our sanctuary for the night.
Day 3: Dynjandi Waterfall & Southern Fjord Beauty
Departing Ísafjörður, our journey takes us through the mystical beauty of Flateyri village before heading south. A visit to the Westfjords is truly not complete without seeing Dynjandi waterfall, often called the “Jewel of the Westfjords.” This magnificent tiered waterfall, fanning out like a bridal veil as it cascades down the mountainside, is one of Iceland’s most iconic sights. Enjoy a short hike up towards its base for different perspectives and to feel its power. We continue our drive, potentially traversing mountain passes like Hrafnseyrarheiði (seasonal) offering breathtaking vistas that capture the essence of the fjords. We visit the quirky and fascinating museum of Samúel Jónsson, “the simple-hearted artist,” in Selárdalur, showcasing his unique sculptures and story. Patreksfjörður, a charming town in the southern fjords, becomes our haven for the night, surrounded by the echoes of nature’s majesty.
Day 4: Cliffs, Red Sands & Farewell
As we set forth from Patreksfjörður, we head towards Europe’s westernmost point (excluding the Azores): Látrabjarg bird cliffs. Standing atop these immense, towering cliffs provides incredible views and is home to vast colonies of seabirds (especially puffins from roughly May to August). Witness the captivating birdlife in their natural habitat (emphasizing safety near the cliff edge!). Our final natural wonder is the unique Rauðisandur Red Sand Beach, a stunning expanse of reddish-golden sand stretching for miles, offering a serene and picturesque contrast to Iceland’s typical black sands. Enjoy a peaceful walk on this amazing beach, letting its beauty soothe your soul. With hearts full of memories of dramatic fjords, unique culture, and untouched landscapes, we bid farewell to the Westfjords and begin our return journey to Reykjavík, arriving in the evening with unforgettable experiences from this truly special region.

Best Tour Company you can use in Iceland
We have just done the South Coast Private tour with Bessi and Cami and had the most fun, informative and fantastic trip you can imagine. What Bessi can’t tell you about Iceland isn’t worth knowing and Cami instantly becomes a friend for life. Bessi drives with extreme care and caution, even when off roaring, we always felt safe and saw everything we wanted. Please don’t think twice, you certainly get what you pay for with these guys. Thank you so much for the fantastic memories.
Adventure on the south coast!
What a spectacular experience! Highly recommend booking any tour you can find with moonwalker. Definitely worth any premium cost versus the traditional bus tours
Fantastic Icelandic Guide and Tour !
I’d have to say that booking with Moonwalker Tours was the best decision we made on our trip to Iceland. Bessi and his super cute sidekick Cami (his dog) were fantastic guides and took us to some crazy places in this amazing country that aren’t accessible to the mass tour busses and crowds. When Bessi says “i’m just going to deflate the tyres” on his massive 4×4 Landrover Defender you know your in for a Mad Adventure !
Exhilarating day with Bessi and Cami!
This is THE way to see the South Coast – in the company of Bessi, an easygoing, warm and knowledgable guide, and in the BEST ride – a massive jeep that whisked us away from the crowds, across rivers, up to a glacier, and along a black sand beach. We had views, experiences and insights we couldn’t have gotten any other way. All this plus Bessi’s adorable sheepdog Cami who rode and romped along with us all day. This is a day I’ll be thinking about for a long time – thank you Bessi! We hope to see you again.
An Unforgettable South Coast Adventure
I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Moonwalker; we stopped in Iceland for a few days before continuing on to Europe and our day with Bessi was the highlight of the trip. We had so much fun exploring with Bessi and Cami – right away it felt more like we were spending the day with a friend rather than on a “tour.” We loved that the day wasn’t restricted to a set schedule and instead Bessi made suggestions based on conditions and we ended up on adventures that we never expected but that were absolutely breathtaking. Not to mention that Bessi is extremely knowledgeable and prepared for anything, so we knew that we were in great hands the whole time. I truly feel that we left Iceland with a friend (two friends if you count the furry one too), and we now want to go back in the summer just to spend more time exploring with Bessi.
Awesome Tours
We did two days of tours with Bessi, the Golden Circle and the South Coast, and LOVED both. We booked them as group tours but no one else signed up so we had him to ourselves, which was great. He was so friendly and easy going, it was great getting to know him and learning about living in Iceland. He took us places that the larger tours would never go, including off-roading to a cavern/waterfall, to a secret ship wreck, and to the best little fish and chips place. He also knew when to go to certain places to avoid the peak of the large tour groups. Everything was so much more flexible and personal with him. The highlight was the drive around the Langjökull glacier on the Golden Circle tour in his Defender, which has wifi! Definitely book with him!
