Project Description
Private Journey into Iceland’s Wildest Region
The Westfjords are not something you “add on.”
They are Iceland without shortcuts — long fjords, empty roads, steep cliffs, and villages that still move at their own pace.
This is a private 4-day journey into one of the least visited regions of the country, guided by locals who know the roads, the weather, and when it’s time to slow down.
Price estimate:
For 2 people, this tour is approximately 1,200,000 ISK, depending on accommodation availability and hotel choices.
Travel Deep into the Westfjords
From Reykjavík, we head north and west, leaving traffic and crowds behind. Roads narrow, distances grow, and the landscape opens up.
This is not fast travel. It’s deliberate.
Your Moonwalker guide handles the logistics, route planning, and timing so you can focus on the experience. Expect long scenic drives broken up by short walks, viewpoints, quiet villages, and places most travelers never reach.
Day 1 – Into the Fjords & Icelandic Folklore
We leave Reykjavík and travel north, stopping at Grábrók volcanic crater for wide views over the countryside.
As we enter the Westfjords, we stop in Hólmavík to visit the Museum of Sorcery & Witchcraft, a small but memorable look into the region’s folklore and history.
The day ends in Heydalur, a remote farm stay tucked into a quiet valley — a place to slow down, soak, and settle into the rhythm of the fjords.
Day 2 – Fjord Roads, Arctic Fox & Coastal Life
We continue deeper into the northern fjords, stopping at Littlibær, a turf house café when open.
In Súðavík, we visit the Arctic Fox Centre, dedicated to Iceland’s only native land mammal.
Lunch is in Ísafjörður, followed by a drive up Bolafjall for wide views over the surrounding fjords and out toward the Arctic Ocean (conditions permitting).
Later, we visit the Ósvör Maritime Museum in Bolungarvík before returning to Ísafjörður for the night.
Day 3 – Dynjandi & the Southern Fjords
We head south through villages like Flateyri, stopping along the way as light and weather allow.
The highlight is Dynjandi, the largest waterfall in the Westfjords. A short uphill walk brings you closer to the cascading tiers — no rush, plenty of time.
We continue to Selárdalur, home to the unique sculptures of Samúel Jónsson, before settling in Patreksfjörður for the night.
Day 4 – Cliffs, Red Sand & Return
We start the day at Látrabjarg, Europe’s westernmost point. Massive bird cliffs, wide views, and strong winds — safety always comes first.
From there, we visit Rauðisandur, a wide red-sand beach that feels open, quiet, and completely different from the rest of Iceland.
In the afternoon, we begin the return journey to Reykjavík, arriving in the evening.

Best Tour Company you can use in Iceland
We have just done the South Coast Private tour with Bessi and Cami and had the most fun, informative and fantastic trip you can imagine. What Bessi can’t tell you about Iceland isn’t worth knowing and Cami instantly becomes a friend for life. Bessi drives with extreme care and caution, even when off roaring, we always felt safe and saw everything we wanted. Please don’t think twice, you certainly get what you pay for with these guys. Thank you so much for the fantastic memories.
Adventure on the south coast!
What a spectacular experience! Highly recommend booking any tour you can find with moonwalker. Definitely worth any premium cost versus the traditional bus tours
Fantastic Icelandic Guide and Tour !
I’d have to say that booking with Moonwalker Tours was the best decision we made on our trip to Iceland. Bessi and his super cute sidekick Cami (his dog) were fantastic guides and took us to some crazy places in this amazing country that aren’t accessible to the mass tour busses and crowds. When Bessi says “i’m just going to deflate the tyres” on his massive 4×4 Landrover Defender you know your in for a Mad Adventure !
Exhilarating day with Bessi and Cami!
This is THE way to see the South Coast – in the company of Bessi, an easygoing, warm and knowledgable guide, and in the BEST ride – a massive jeep that whisked us away from the crowds, across rivers, up to a glacier, and along a black sand beach. We had views, experiences and insights we couldn’t have gotten any other way. All this plus Bessi’s adorable sheepdog Cami who rode and romped along with us all day. This is a day I’ll be thinking about for a long time – thank you Bessi! We hope to see you again.
An Unforgettable South Coast Adventure
I can’t say enough good things about our experience with Moonwalker; we stopped in Iceland for a few days before continuing on to Europe and our day with Bessi was the highlight of the trip. We had so much fun exploring with Bessi and Cami – right away it felt more like we were spending the day with a friend rather than on a “tour.” We loved that the day wasn’t restricted to a set schedule and instead Bessi made suggestions based on conditions and we ended up on adventures that we never expected but that were absolutely breathtaking. Not to mention that Bessi is extremely knowledgeable and prepared for anything, so we knew that we were in great hands the whole time. I truly feel that we left Iceland with a friend (two friends if you count the furry one too), and we now want to go back in the summer just to spend more time exploring with Bessi.
Awesome Tours
We did two days of tours with Bessi, the Golden Circle and the South Coast, and LOVED both. We booked them as group tours but no one else signed up so we had him to ourselves, which was great. He was so friendly and easy going, it was great getting to know him and learning about living in Iceland. He took us places that the larger tours would never go, including off-roading to a cavern/waterfall, to a secret ship wreck, and to the best little fish and chips place. He also knew when to go to certain places to avoid the peak of the large tour groups. Everything was so much more flexible and personal with him. The highlight was the drive around the Langjökull glacier on the Golden Circle tour in his Defender, which has wifi! Definitely book with him!
